Teo Lay Yan Teresa holds a Bachelor Degree in Early Childhood Education (with Honours) from the University of South Australia and MA in Early Childhood Studies from the University of East London, UK. She also graduated with a Montessori Teaching Diploma (Pre-Primary) from Montessori World Educational Institute, CA.
Teresa worked as a Research Associate for Centre for Research and Best Practices, SEED Institute from 2010 to 2012. She specializes in research work and has years of experience working with young children both in and out of academia. Before entering the early childhood profession, she was working for the Ministry of Health for the past 22 years, involving in both clinical and dental health education work for preschools, primary schools and the community. She has also worked in both Montessori and non-Montessori settings for the past 10 years. Her research interests include Research Methodologies, Children’s Learning and Development, Parental Involvement and Parent Education.
Teresa also has a special interest in art. She studied art at various art institutions and qualified with a Certificate in Western Art – NAFA (1982-1984), Certificate in Graphic Art–L.C.E School of Art (1984-985) and Certificate in Teaching Children’s Art–NUS Extra Mural Studies (1989). Her past involvement in art included volunteering as an Activity Instructress with People’s Association and taught Children’s Art at community centres from 1986 to 1989. She also organised Art & Craft activities for ladies and children while serving as an Executive Member of Aljunied Zone ‘2” Residents’ Committee (1998 to 2000) and Chairperson of the Ladies’ Club (2000 to 2002).Her previous art training has motivated her to set up Dove Doodle Pte Ltd recently and do her part for the community.
Teresa is happily married and a mother of two lovely daughters. She volunteers in church and community work during her free time.
